Welcome to Neuron Wallet! Neuron is a Nervos CKB desktop wallet for managing and manipulating Nervos CKB digital assets, developed and maintained by the Magickbase team under the Nervos ecosystem.

What is Neuron Wallet?

### Download

Please download the latest version of Neuron Wallet and choose the correct installer download for your computer system: [https://github.com/nervosnetwork/neuron/releases/latest](https://github.com/nervosnetwork/neuron/releases/latest)

### Attention:

1. For the Windows version, to ensure that node synchronization works properly, install the latest [Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-US/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170) before installing Neuron Wallet.
2. Check that the checksum of the downloaded installation package matches the checksum published in the corresponding release note to ensure that the application has not been malformed during the download process.

### How to verify with Checksum ?

1. To get the Checksum of the installation package, run the following command in terminal:
   - Windows(PowerShell):

### Installation and access

- Install or unzip the corresponding installation package to complete the installation.
- Double-click the Neuron icon on your desktop to access your Neuron Wallet.


Neuron Wallet Download & Installation

Neuron is a decentralized wallet and completely open source, we do not have access to any of your data, you have absolute privacy and control over your assets, but this also means that you need to take sole responsibility for the protection of asset security. However, this also means that you are solely responsible for protecting your assets. Therefore, you need to have sufficient security knowledge and awareness, and take measures to prevent loss, theft and fraud is necessary to ensure the safety of your assets.

### Anti-Loss Strategy

According to incomplete statistics, the most common reason for the loss of digital assets is not theft, but the failure of users to keep their wallet mnemonics safe. As a decentralized wallet, Neuron does not keep the user's auxiliaries, so once they are lost, they cannot be recovered. Here are some tips to help you properly back up and protect your wallet's tokens:

1. Write down the mnemonic: Copy the mnemonic for your wallet clearly and accurately on a piece of paper. Make sure you use reliable paper and keep it in a safe place where it cannot be easily damaged or lost, such as a safe or fireproof safe.
2. Backup multiple copies: It is recommended to create multiple backup copies and store them in different physical locations. This way, even if something happens in one location, it is still possible to retrieve the auxiliary words from the other locations.
3. Use of mnemonic boxes: A mnemonic box is a physical device used for the secure storage of mnemonics. It is usually made of metal or other durable material and is effective in preventing damage or destruction of the mnemonic. A mnemonic is placed in a mnemonic box and stored in a safe place.
4. Offline backup: If you choose to back up your mnemonic (e.g., an electronic file or photo) using a digital form, store it in an offline device, such as a USB drive or a hardware wallet. Make sure the offline device is disconnected from the Internet to prevent hacking.
5. Secure your backups: Whichever backup method you choose, make sure you properly secure your backups. Do not store your mnemonics or backups in a place that is vulnerable, easily lost, or easily accessed by others, such as cloud storage, email, or social media.
6. Regularly check your backups: Check your backups regularly to ensure the legibility and integrity of your mnemonics. If you find any problems, create a new backup immediately.
7. Keep it private: do not share the mnemonic or private key with others. The passphrase is the key to accessing the assets, and anyone who knows the passphrase can access and control the assets in the wallet.

Also, be sure to cross-check your backups immediately to ensure that the mnemonics are correct.

### Anti-Theft Strategies

On the blockchain, the mnemonic represents asset ownership. Once others have access to your mnemonic, they can import it on other devices and set different passwords to steal your assets. Therefore, the most important thing you can do to prevent theft is to make sure you are downloading a genuine copy of Neuron and protect your wallet backup to avoid leakage of your mnemonic and private key. Here are some tips to help you avoid asset theft:

1. Don't download Neuron from unofficial sources, always recognize official sources when downloading : [https://github.com/nervosnetwork/neuron/releases](https://github.com/nervosnetwork/neuron/releases )
2. Don't save or share mnemonics and private keys on networked devices and services.
3. Don't share the mnemonic or private key with others.
4. Don't import mnemonics or private keys into unknown third-party websites.

### Anti-Fraud Strategies

Scammers have been known to use a wide range of fraudulent tactics, and less vigilant users often have their accounts accessed by scammers without realizing it, leading to theft of assets.Therefore, to prevent scams, the most important thing is to understand the common scams about digital assets and raise your alertness. Here are some of the common scams to look out for and be vigilant about:

1. MLM funds plate fraud: high yield as bait, and false propaganda and Neuron reached a cooperation to lure users to make payments to the fraudulent platform.
2. Arbitrage Fraud: On the grounds that there is arbitrage space for exchange platform coins, users are lured to make payments to the so-called "smart contract address", cheating users of their assets.
3. SMS Fraud: Users are lured to download fake installation packages on the grounds of shutdown, withdrawal, change of service, etc. so as to steal assets.
4. Telecommunications fraud posing as exchange personnel: requesting funds verification on the grounds that the account is suspected of money laundering, instructing the user to download and install a wallet through a shared screen, and secretly recording the user's wallet mnemonic, then stealing the assets.
5. Fake installer scam: Users are lured into downloading fake installers from phishing sites for reasons such as receiving candy or reduced miner fees, thereby stealing assets.
6. Impersonation of Neuron Officials Scam: Assets are stolen by asking users for mnemonics and private keys under the guise of helping them solve problems.

Be vigilant, don't be greedy check more with the official, don't download the installer from the third party platform and check the installer properly, you can stay away from being cheated.

### Create Wallet

If you need a new wallet, select Create New Wallet and the system will generate a new wallet seed consisting of 12 mnemonics.
**Attention :** Screenshots, copies and copy operations of mnemonics may be read by third parties, it is recommended to save mnemonics by hand.

### Import Wallet

If you already have a CKB wallet, you can use the Neuron wallet to manage your assets by importing mnemonics or Keystore file.

You can add a new wallet by choosing to import a mnemonic or Keystore file at the start of the wallet, or by clicking on the Wallet menu at the top once you are in the wallet and choosing Import Wallet.

Wait for the data synchronization to complete and then you can start using the Neuron wallet.


Create/Import Wallet

When you need to execute a transaction or check your balance in the wallet, the wallet needs the latest data from the blockchain network to provide accurate information. You can check the progress and status of the synchronization at the top of the software:

Due to different network and device configurations, it currently takes more than 24 hours to synchronize the full node data from scratch, taking up about 110 Gigabytes of disk space.
For users who want to access blockchain information quickly but do not need the full blockchain data, you can use the built-in light client mode, which can effectively shorten the synchronization time and reduce the disk space occupied. (Attention : Currently, the light client mode only supports the test network, and the main network will be supported later)


Data Synchronization

### Send

Neuron Wallet currently supports one-to-one, one-to-many, and customizable transaction fees. You can do this on the Send page to fulfill your transfer requirements:

1. Fill in the Receive address in the Send to field on the Send page.
2. Use the default fee settings or change the fee settings in Fee Settings.
3. Click the Send button.
4. Enter your password and click Confirm to complete the transfer.

**Attention :** The wallet needs to reserve at least 61 CKB for receiving change unless it is sent in full. (1 CKB = 1 byte, and the smallest Cell consisting of capacity, lock, args, and hash_type is 61 bytes, so a minimum of 61 CKB is required to store assets.)

### Receive

Your payment address and QR code will be displayed. Since Neuron is a HD wallet with good scalability and security, a new address will be automatically selected for each reception, if you want to use the old one you can go to the address management page to set it up.You can also perform operations such as copying addresses, copying images, and saving images locally.

Send & Receive CKB

You can adjust the functionality of the software from the settings in the sidebar of the software.

**Wallets**

Supports changing names and exporting existing wallets and adding new ones.

You can check here to update the software version or change the language of the software.\

You can switch network nodes, or add/modify network nodes.

**Data**

Here you can adjust the node configuration and the path for storing data.

**Cache**

When there is a problem with data synchronization or balance display, you can choose to clear the cache so Neuron will resynchronize the block data.

Advanced Features

The Nervos DAO is a smart contract that users can interact with, just like any other smart contract on the CKB.One of the features of the Nervos DAO is to provide CKB holders with a kind of anti-inflationary feature. By depositing CKBs into the Nervos DAO, holders receive a percentage of secondary issuance, and in the time between deposits and withdrawals, their percentage of holdings is only affected by the creation block and the underlying issuance, just like with hard-topped Bitcoin. ### Deposit CKBs into Nervos DAO via Neuron:

1. Select Nervos DAO and click Deposit.
2. Enter the deposit amount for the CKB token and click Continue.
3. Enter your password and click "Confirm" to submit the deposit transaction.

Attention :  The wallet must have at least 102 CKB for Nervos DAO deposit operation.

### Withdraw the deposited CKBs from the Nervos DAO via Neuron:

1. Select the deposit you want to withdraw from the list of deposits and click Withdraw.
2. Click "Continue" in the pop-up window to complete the withdrawal operation.

Attention :  The wallet must have at least 61 CKBs in order to perform a Nervos DAO withdrawal operation.

Here you can manage customized assets that are vested or locked.

### Customized Assets

Vested or locked tokens can be claimed using the latest version of Neuron Wallet.Once Neuron Wallet is fully synchronized, vested or locked assets are visible on the Custom Assets page.
Once a custom asset is claimed, it can be transferred or deposited into the Nervos DAO.

Troubleshooting

Light Client Mode is a connection mode for Neuron that connects to the built-in CKB Light Node Network. It downloads a portion of the blockchain data to obtain necessary information compared to a full node. This gives Neuron faster access to the CKB blockchain. (Attention :  Currently, light client mode is only supported on the test network, with support for the main network to follow)

### Light Client Mode Advantages

- Higher synchronization speed: Light Client Mode enables faster synchronization of blockchain data, saving users' time and network bandwidth.
- Less disk usage: Light Client Mode requires only a fraction of the blockchain data to be stored, resulting in less storage space requirement compared to a full node.

Using a MacBook Pro (13-inch, M1, 2020) device as an example, we conducted a realistic test of synchronization from block 0 to the latest block 9,380,828 (2023/05/22 Pudge network data):

Light Client Mode: The synchronization process consumed about 5.5 hours and approximately 45MB of disk space during running. (The disk usage is related to the transaction count, and this test included 782 transactions.)
Full Node Mode: It took about 36 hours to synchronize 107.8GB of data. (Excluding the time to find an assumed valid target block.)

In the above test scenario, using a light node compared to a full node reduced synchronization time by 84.7% and disk usage by 99.9%. (Please note that these numbers are for reference only and may vary depending on different equipment, network conditions, and account data.)

Light Client Mode

### What is Multisig Addresses?

Multisig addresses, as the name suggests, is a wallet that requires more than one address to sign for an operation, thus increasing security. Transferring using multisig addresses often requires >= 1 address to sign and send the transaction before the transfer can be completed. When using multisig addresses, we can specify a signature pattern of m/n, which means that the operation can be completed with the signatures of the m address out of the n address. For example, a 2/3 signature pattern implies that 2 out of 3 addresses can sign the transaction.

### How to use Multisig Addresses?

1. You can create a multisig address in the menu/tools.
2. When creating a multisig address, you can specify the number of addresses to sign and the required number of valid signatures according to your needs.
3. Click "Next" and input the signature addresses as needed and confirm the necessary signature addresses in the total wallet according to your requirements.
4. Continue to complete the wallet creation.

Sync

The Neuron unsynchronization issue can be caused by various reasons:
1. Computer CPU and disk performance.
2. Computer network connection.
3. Local cache data problems; try clearing the cache and resyncing.

Neuron not synchronizing

Any transaction in Neuron wallet is marked as completed after waiting for confirmation from XX number of blocks. Therefore, when you see a transaction marked as completed on the CKB Explorer, you may need to wait for the transaction to receive XX number of block confirmations in Neuron wallet. After that, you can use Neuron wallet to manage the assets associated with the transaction.


Why is my transaction marked as completed on the CKB Explorer but not yet in Neuron wallet?

Currently, you can configure the mainnet/testnet/devnet or remote node/local node.For a local development chain, you need to start your own local development node and mining process.

What networks can be configured in the Neuron network settings?

Sometimes there exist some exceptions that local data are not updated timely. If so, clean cache with the default option will help you. 
For Windows, Click `Help -> Settings -> Data -> Clear Cache`, For MacOS, click `Neuron -> Preferences -> Data -> Clear Cache`.


How to clear the cache?

I'm using Neuron V0.106. Block stopped syncing. I clicked on Clear Cache from data setting menu. Now my balance is gone as well as history transactions. I have 2 wallets and both balances are now 0. Please help me out. Thank you

Transaction

When you receive a transaction failure message, you can double-check in your wallet to confirm that the transaction was indeed unsuccessful and investigate the reason for the failure. If the transaction fails due to network issues and you still want to proceed with it, you can choose to increase the transaction fee and initiate the transaction again.


What should I do when my transaction fails?

In the Neuron wallet, if you need to initiate a transaction, make sure:

1. Your Neuron wallet is connected to the correct network and is synchronized to the latest block.
2. The total amount of CKB in your wallet should be greater than 61 CKB.

Tips: After each transaction, it's recommended to keep a balance of more than 61 CKB in your wallet to pay transaction fees in the following actions, or you can fully withdraw all your assets in the last transaction to ensure all assets are available.



How to make a transaction?

### Creating a Multisig address

1. You can create a multisig address in the menu/tools.
2. When creating a multisig address, you can specify the number of addresses to sign and the required number of valid signatures according to your needs.
3. Click "Next" and input the signature addresses as needed and confirm the necessary signature addresses in the total wallet according to your requirements.
4. Continue to complete the wallet creation.

### Handle a multisig transaction

- You can find the multisig address you want to use in the menu/tools/multi-signature address and copy it for receiving funds.
- Similarly, you can find the multi-signature address for your existing assets in the menu/tools/multisig address. After ensuring that the assets at this address meet the transfer conditions, you can use this address to initiate a transfer. At this point, you need to use the signing and exporting function, use an address belonging to the multisig address in the connected wallet to sign it, and pass the partially signed transaction file to the next user who needs to sign it. When the required number of signatures is reached, and all necessary addresses have signed, the transaction can be broadcast to the blockchain when the last signature address signs it.


How to generate multsig addresses and handle multisig transactions

In Neuron, there are two types of signatures. One is signing a message, typically used to prove ownership of an account. The other is signing a transaction, which is a step in the process of sending a transaction.
When you need to make a transfer, you typically need to sign a transaction.


What is a signed transaction in Neuron?

Exporting a transaction means saving the transaction information to disk. This is typically used for code wallet signing or multisig transaction signing purposes.


What is exporting a transaction, and what is it for?

Assets

There is no direct way to claim CKB on testnet within Neuron. You can copy your receiving address from Neuron and claim CKB from [CKB Testnet Faucet](https://faucet.nervos.org/).

How can I claim CKB on testnet?

The DAO deposit needs two steps to withdraw it. For the phase 1 withdrawal, users can start at any time. For phase 2, users must wait for 180 epochs(about 30 days) at most.

How to withdraw DAO Withdraw assets?

When you import a wallet and find that your assets are missing, you can try checking the following:

1. Make sure the mnemonic phrase/KeyStore is entered correctly.
2. Verify that the wallet is connected to the correct network.
3. Ensure that the wallet's network synchronization is at 100%.
4. Check your asset status in the CKB explorer.
5. Review the transaction history of your account to confirm if the assets have been used.

If all the above checks are correct and your assets still don't appear correctly, please visit the official CKB Discord [channel](https://discord.com/channels/956765352514183188/959384192859389983) and provide details of the assets you obtained from another source, along with a detailed description of your issue.

Why did my assets disappear after importing the wallet?

Safety

Neuron stores keys in a standard Keystore format on the disk. This file is encrypted with the user's password, so recovering the private keys requires both the Keystore file and the user's password. If the password is kept secure and not compromised, the private key will remain protected and safe.


If my computer is lost, can someone obtain my private keys from Neuron?

Neuron can be used as an offline cold wallet with the following process:

1. Prepare two computers, one offline and one online, both with Neuron installed.
2. On the offline computer running Neuron, generate a new wallet and go to the menu => Wallet => Export Extended Public Key. This exports the extended public key for creating a watch-only wallet.
3. On the online computer running Neuron, import the Extended Public Key obtained in step 2 to create a watch-only wallet for syncing and creating transactions.
4. Wait for the online computer's Neuron to sync to the latest block. When performing transactions or interacting with DAO, there will be an option to 'Export Transaction' in the dialog box for entering the password, which will give you a transaction that needs to be signed.
5. On the offline computer running Neuron, go to the menu => Tools => Offline Sign. You can sign and export the transaction from step 4.
6. On the online computer's Neuron, go to the menu => Tools => Offline Sign to broadcast (submit to the blockchain) the signed transaction from step 5.


Can Neuron be used to create an offline cold wallet? How to create one, and how to receive and send coins while offline?

If the transaction has already been signed by a cold wallet, what you need to do is just submitting the transaction to the node and broadcasting it to miners. 
Therefore, you can simply use Neuron's broadcast transaction feature. Just create a temporary wallet in Neuron to enable the 'Offline Sign' button in menu “Tools”. After selecting the signed transaction, the 'Broadcast' button will become available.

- [CKB Light Client@v0.2.4](https://github.com/nervosnetwork/ckb-light-client/releases/tag/v0.2.4) was released on May. 28th, 2023. This version of CKB Light Client is now bundled and preconfigured in Neuron

#### Caveat
◆ **CKB Light Client** is only activated on testnet, thus only `light testnet` is enabled in Neuron. **CKB Light Client on Mainnet** requires a hardfork on the mainnet in the future.
◆ **CKB@v0.110** requires data migration, which is irreversible. Be cautious to start the migration without a backup. [How to back up data of ckb node](https://github.com/nervosnetwork/neuron/issues/2557#issue-1512510978)

> On the other hand, we strongly recommend you to back up the old data before migrating, the **ckb node data path** can be found by clicking **preference -> Data -> CKB Node Config & Storage**. Because once the migration starts, the data will be no longer compatible with all older versions of CKB.

### Assumed valid target

Block before `0xc0c532e10c708852d9586be46a5ed8317b2aa0835c721aa691abffb9bf4a26cd`(at height `10,004,892`) will be skipped in validation.(#2689)

We are thrilled to introduce our new feature: **Light Client Mode**. This feature makes Neuron more practical and convenient, allowing you to manage your digital assets more easily. Please note that it is currently only available on the testnet, as activation on the mainnet will require a hardfork.

#### What is the light client model?

**Light Client Mode** is a connection mode of Neuron that connects to a built-in **CKB Light Client**. Compared to a full node, it downloads a portion of the blockchain data to obtain necessary information. This allows Neuron to access the CKB blockchain faster.

#### Light Client Mode Advantages

1. **Higher synchronization speed**: Light Client Mode enables faster synchronization of blockchain data, saving users' time and network bandwidth.
2. **Less disk usage**: Light Client Mode requires only a fraction of the blockchain data to be stored, resulting in less storage space requirement compared to a full node.

Using a **MacBook Pro (13-inch, M1, 2020)** device as an example, we conducted a realistic test of synchronization from **block 0 to the latest block 9,380,828** (2023/05/22 Pudge network data):

- Light Client Mode: The synchronization process consumed about **5.5 hours** and approximately **45MB** of disk space during running. (The disk usage is related to the transaction count, and this test included 782 transactions.)
- Full Node Mode: It took about **36 hours** to synchronize **107.8GB** of data. (Excluding the time to find an assumed valid target block.)

In the above test scenario, using a light node compared to a full node **reduced synchronization time by 84.7% and disk usage by 99.9%**. (Please note that these numbers are for reference only and may vary depending on different equipment, network conditions, and account data.)

#### Light Client Mode Usage Scenarios

Compared to full nodes, light nodes require less disk space and network bandwidth, making them suitable for users who want to quickly access blockchain information without needing the full blockchain data. However, please note that for transactions containing time locks, Cheque contracts, or other operations that require full node data verification, you will need to switch to full nodes.
